PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Nagpur Metro system is an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) that is being built to serve the city of Nagpur in eastern Maharashtra. Construction for its 38.215 km first phase started in 2015 and is expected to be completed in 2023 (est.) with a mix of elevated & at-grade level lines. NMRCL Is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) created for the smooth implementation and operations of the Nagpur Metro Rail Project and is a joint venture of Government of India & Government of Maharashtra, with 50:50 equity. NMRCL shall be solely responsible for the successful and timely completion of the project & its operations subsequently. Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited is incorporated by Govt. of India- Ministry of Corporate Affairs on 18th February 2015.

CHALLENGES

The ground is made up of various types of solid material of various origin and empty spaces due to which the surface is permeable and leads to accumulate the water above the ground.

Groundwater: As the surface was wet due to which our membrane was not acquiring proper bonding with concrete mud surface,so it was difficult to carryout the work.

Ground uneveness: As surface was not plane which was affecting laying of membrane.

Watertightness: As laid pcc was not properly compacted due this surface became porus and water starts rising through void and made surface wet.

TIKIDAN SOLUTION

Ground water control was an important consideration in the design of Waterproofing works, so we had to remove the water and to make surface plane TIKI PRIME W used which not only made the surface plane but also developed strong bonding between HYDROSTOP 3PY-SP and Concrete surface. As the surface was wet Water based primer was used(TIKI PRIME W) other than this Watertightness is important parameter as Underground structures are normally exposed to an external water pressure, and permanent structures and joints must therefore Watertightness of the structure may be ensured by designing a watertight concrete, the use of watertight joints and possibly use of waterproofing membranes.

A safe and reliable waterproofing solution was required to prevent any water ingress through and around the base slab. Dense steel reinforcement within the base slab and the complicated detail at the intersection between the cast slab and the sprayed concrete lining, meant that traditional rear-guard waterbars were not an option to seal the joint. The new, innovative, fully bonded waterproofing membrane system HYDROSTOP 3PY-SP was selected to prevent water ingress through the base slab. It is a completely engineered solution, which produces a mechanical bond with the concrete, and incorporates a unique grid pattern of sealant that prevents any lateral water underflow and migration between the membrane and concrete. HYDROSTOP PLUS 3PY-SP is easy and simple to install and jointing solutions were installed around the perimeter of the slab to protect against any water ingress at the interception of the slab and the walls.
